Located just minutes north of Albuquerque, the village of Placitas is nestled in the northern foothills of Sandia Mountain, seven miles east of Bernalillo. Settled in the mid 1700s as part of the San Antonio de las Huertas Grant, the village of Placitas (Little Towns) still retains its historic quaintness — narrow winding roads, small orchards, adobe houses and ruins of Pueblo people and Spanish settlers who inhabited the land long ago. Today, along with its centuries-old heritage, Placitas is a vibrant area of beautiful homes and active community associations.
Nearby activities include the New Mexico Wine Festival in Bernalillo during the Labor Day weekend, the Coronado State Monument, golf, skiing, several casinos and fine dining. Hiking trails abound in the foothills around Placitas. Desert wildlife is abundant and wild flowers are everywhere. Set in the natural beauty of the high desert — glorious sunsets, night skies full of stars, the ever-changing palette of colors on the mountains and mesas — Placitas is a special place that beckons you to return again and again.
