All rooms have private baths with hand-painted Mexican Talavera sinks and tiles. Some of the more exclusive rooms include a private Jacuzzi and/or steam-bath.Your stay includes complimentary state-of-the-art health club privileges with tennis and racquetball courts, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, yoga, and aerobic classes. We also offer internet services in our guest lounge. WI-FI is currently available in all rooms, the dining room and garden areas. HACIENDA DEL SOL consists of four adobe buildings with the original structure dating back to 1804. Situated on 1.2 acres, the Hacienda backs onto 95 thousand acres of Taos Pueblo land. Taos Mountain, considered sacred by the Pueblo Indians, provides a commanding backdrop to the Hacienda's expansive gardens and secluded tranquility. We've made room for romance. Thick adobe walls, viga and latilla ceilings, arched pueblo-style doorways and large quiet rooms reflect the Southwestern charm that abounds throughout Hacienda del Sol.

Each guest room has its own distinct character: original art, antique hand-crafted furniture, old trunks, retablos, hand-woven baskets, specially woven rugs, handcrafted southwest quilts by local artist and great-to-snuggle-under down comforters.

Eight rooms have kiva fireplaces and many have mountain views. Four rooms have their own private Jacuzzi tubs, and three more have their own steam rooms. We have provided a special selection of CDs in each room for that special evening of romance.
Taos mountain is our backyard. Hacienda del Sol consists of three adobe buildings, with the original building dating back to 1804. Latilla fencing and adobe walls surround beautifully landscaped grounds. To date, 600 daffodils, 2000 tulip bulbs, and numerous fruit trees, shrubs and perennials have been planted.

Though Hacienda del Sol means "House of the Sun" in Spanish, towering cottonwoods, elms, willows and blue spruces shade our hacienda in the summertime.

The yard behind the main house is ringed with old lilac bushes which fill the air with their fragrance every spring. Three large golden willows add a graceful aura of romance to our backyard, the setting for numerous summer weddings.

Our history is as colorful as our gardens. When you enter the front gates of the Hacienda del Sol, you are stepping into part of the artistic history of Taos itself.

For many years the adobe was owned by Taos' legendary art patroness, Mabel Dodge Luhan and her fourth husband, Tony, from Taos Pueblo. In those days the hacienda consisted of a four-room adobe, an apple orchard and many acres of farmland and pastures. Mabel and Tony used the house as a temporary residence and for many years used it as a guest house for such notables as D.H. Lawrence, Georgia O'Keeffe and Willa Cather. One of the Southwest's most respected authors, Frank Waters lived here in 1939 and it was during his stay here that Frank authored The People of the Valley as well as gathering the material for The Man Who Killed The Deer which he dedicated to Mabel and Tony.

We pamper you right from the start. Our guests wake up to the aroma of our freshly-ground, special blend coffee in the air and a newspaper available in the dining room. Enjoy them together with a delicious breakfast beside a roaring fire in the winter or on the patio in the summer.
