This Southern New Mexico town on the banks of the Pecos River is known for its lovely setting, sunshine, and of course, Carlsbad Caverns National Park. The original "Bat Cave" was discovered in 1901, and visitors have been flocking to it since the park was established in 1930. But bats are not the only reason to visit Carlsbad. There are a myriad of festivals and activities from golfing to hot air balloon racing. The Guadalupe Mountains National Park, a hiker's paradise of breathtaking beauty, is a short drive from Carlsbad. There is always something interesting to do in and around Carlsbad.
